Title: Procedures for Cases Involving Mentally Incompetent Aliens | |
Abstract: EOIR intends to propose regulations for handling cases involving aliens in immigration proceedings before EOIR who present mental competency issues. The proposed regulations will be informed, in part, by the policy announced by EOIR on April 22, 2013, in which EOIR committed to provide enhanced protections to unrepresented immigration detainees with serious mental disorders or conditions that may render them mentally incompetent to represent themselves in immigration proceedings. | |
