Title: Seasonal and Decorative Lighting Products | |
Abstract:
Staff submitted for Commission consideration a proposed rule that would amend the substantial product hazard list in CFR part 1120. The rule would specify that seasonal and decorative lighting products, defined to be consistent with the description of such products in section 1 of UL 588, be deemed a substantial product hazard if one or more of three readily observable characteristics is absent. The characteristics are (1) minimum wire size; (2) sufficient strain relief; and (3) overcurrent protection. Such a rule is authorized by 15 USC 2064(j) in cases where readily observable product characteristics are addressed by voluntary standards that have been effective in reducing the risk from such characteristics and there is substantial compliance with such standards. On October 8, 2014, the Commission approved publication of the NPRM in the Federal Register. The NPRM published in the Federal Register on October 16, 2014. After reviewing comments, staff will prepare a Final Rule briefing package. |
