Title: Containment Protection and Release Reduction for Mark I and Mark II Boiling Water Reactors [NRC-2013-0075] | |
Abstract:
This rulemaking would amend the Commission's regulations in 10 C.F.R. Part 50 to provide a performance-based option for filtering strategies with drywell filtration and severe accident management of boiling-water reactor Mark I and II containments. The rule would define performance-based requirements to prevent the release of significant amounts of radioactive material from containment following the dominant severe accident sequences at boiling-water reactors with Mark I and Mark II containments and establish acceptance criteria for confinement strategies. This rulemaking would make generically applicable requirements of EA-13-109. SRM-SECY-12-0157 directs the staff to conduct this rulemaking expeditiously.
