Title: Relocation of Alaska Humpback Whale Approach Regulations
Abstract: This rule would relocate regulations that set out provisions protecting humpback whales in Alaska from approaching vessels. Specifically, these provisions will be relocated, with minor word changes, from Endangered Species Act regulations under Endangered Marine and Anadromous Species to Threatened Marine and Anadromous Species. The regulations were originally adopted in 2001. This relocation will be necessary should the agency finalize the proposed change in status of the humpback whale from a globally endangered species to a number of distinct population segments.
