Title: Great Lakes Pilotage Examinations and Credentialing | |
Abstract:
The Coast Guard proposes changing the process for examining and credentialing U. S. Great Lakes Registered Pilots. Under the current process, both the Coast Guard National Maritime Center (NMC) and the Coast Guard’s Office of Waterways and Ocean Policy (CG-WWM) oversee credentialing and examinations of U.S. Great Lakes Registered Pilots. In this proposed rule, the Coast Guard would change the process to make this role the sole responsibility of the NMC. Through this proposed rule, the Coast Guard would remove inefficiencies and simplify the processes for mariners receiving both specific Great Lakes pilotage credentials and all other mariner credentials. In addition, through this rulemaking the Coast Guard would align the visual acuity requirements for U.S. Great Lakes Registered Pilots with those of all other mariners. |
