Title: ●49 CFR Part 578, Civil Penalties | |
Abstract:
This interim final rule would update the maximum civil penalty amounts for violations of statutes and regulations administered by NHTSA pursuant the Federal Civil Penalties Inflation Adjustment Act Improvement Act of 2015 (the 2015 Act). This final rule also amends our regulations to reflect the new civil penalty amounts for violations of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety (the Safety Act) Act authorized by the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation Act (FAST Act). The 2015 Act requires agencies to make and initial catch up adjustment to the civil monetary penalties they administer through an interim final rule and then to make subsequent annual adjustments for inflation. The final rule makes the inflationary adjustment according to the criteria in the 2015 Act. |
