Title: ●Adopting Clinical Laboratory Improvement Standards | |
Abstract:
The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) proposes to amend its medical regulations to address the applicability of certain Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) standards, codified in 42 CFR part 493, to VA. CLIA establishes quality standards for laboratory testing performed on specimens from humans, such as blood, body fluid and tissue, for the purpose of diagnosis, prevention, or treatment of disease, or assessment of health. This change would reflect VA’s longstanding practice of applying relevant CLIA standards, designate those portions of 42 CFR Part 493 adopted by VA as controlling standards, and clarify those standards that will remain subject to VA oversight and enforcement.
