Title: Significant Disproportionality | |
Abstract:
The Secretary amended regulations under part B of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), which govern the Assistance to States for the Education of Children with Disabilities program and the Preschool Grants for Children with Disabilities program. Specifically, the regulations focus on section 618(d), which requires States to determine if significant disproportionality based on race and ethnicity is occurring in the State and local educational agencies of the State with respect to the identification of children as children with disabilities; the placement in particular educational settings of these children; and the incidence, duration, and type of disciplinary actions, including suspensions and expulsions, taken against these children. |
