Title: ●Valles Caldera National Preserve; Hunting
Abstract:

This rule would prohibit hunting and trapping (except for elk and turkey hunts allowed under state law) at Valles Caldera National Preserve. This rule would codify in Federal law the protection of wildlife species in the Preserve, consistent with the purpose for which the Preserve was designated as a unit of the National Park System, while at the same time acknowledging long-standing, state-authorized hunting of elk and turkey that has existed since the Preserve was established in 2000. This proposed rule would be informed by civic engagement and public participation opportunities throughout the park planning process. Valles Caldera National Preserve is located in the Jemez Mountains of north-central New Mexico.
