Title: Petroleum-Equivalent Fuel Economy Calculation
Abstract:

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is proposing to revise its regulations at 10 CFR part 474 on electric vehicles regarding procedures for calculating a value for the petroleum-equivalent fuel economy of electric vehicles (EVs) for use in the Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) program administered by the Department of Transportation (DOT) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). This proposed rule is in response to a petition for rulemaking submitted by the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) and Sierra Club and also responds to public comments submitted on that petition. This proposed rule would improve the accuracy of accounting for energy use by EVs relative to the current method.
