The National Marine Fisheries Service is implementing specifications for the tilefish fishery for fishing years 2015-2017. The Mid-Atlantic Fishery Management Council has propose commercial quotas of 796 mt for fishing year 2015 and 856 mt for fishing years 2016 and 2017. The 2015 quota represents a 12-percent reduction from the commercial quota that has been used in this fishery from 2001-2014. While the fishery is not experiencing overfishing and was recently declared rebuilt, the reduction in the commercial quota is the result of an improved stock assessment and the Council's conservative risk policy in setting the acceptable biological catch limit.
