Several joint National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) and Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) policies exist to facilitate participation by States in Federal actions pursuant to various parts of the Endangered Species Act. While NMFS does invite and include representatives from State wildlife agencies in scientific review teams for listing actions, this is not explicit in the policies. NMFS and FWS would revise the current joint policy on state participation to expressly indicate that State wildlife agencies should be included in status reviews of listing actions.
