Pursuant to the Endangered Species Act of 1973, the National Marine Fisheries Service proposes to revise our current interpretation of the phrase "significant portion of its range" as it is used in the Endangered Species Act's (Act's) definitions of "endangered species" and "threatened species." 16 U.S.C. 1532(6); (20). This new interpretation would supersede, in whole or in part, a joint final policy adopted with the United States Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) in 2014. This proposed rulemaking will be issued  jointly with FWS.
