<RULE_TITLE>Gulf of America Name Change in National Marine Fisheries Related Regulations</RULE_TITLE>
        <ABSTRACT>

This rule will update National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) chapters to change references of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, consistent with Executive Order 14172, "Restoring Names That Honor American Greatness" (January 20, 2025). There are no associated costs or substantive impacts to the public involved with updating regulations to effect the new name. The rule is expected to provide greater clarity regarding the name change that is already widely in use in non-regulatory references at NMFS, across NOAA, and by the general public. Rulemaking will be conducted under authority of 16 U.S.C. 1382(a), 16 U.S.C. 1540(f), and 16 U.S.C. 1855(d).
