On April 17, 2025, President Trump issued Presidential Proclamation 10918 (90 FR 16987), which removed the commercial fishing prohibitions in the Pacific Remote Islands Marine National Monument (PRIMNM) from 50-200 nautical miles (nmi) around Wake Island, Jarvis Island, and Johnston Atoll, and became effective upon issuance. As a result, the regulations at 50 CFR 665 prohibiting commercial fishing from 50-200 nmi around Wake Island, Johnston Atoll, and Jarvis Island are no longer effective. NMFS issues this interim final rule to revise applicable sections of 50 CFR 665 for consistency with non-discretionary provisions of this proclamation. This rule is necessary to revise existing and inconsistent Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act fishing regulations for compliance with provisions of Presidential Proclamation 10918.
