This rule finalizes revisions to a current Army regulation covering carrying firearms and the use of force by DoD personnel, law enforcement, security (DoD and contractor), counterintelligence, and protective services. The rule also discusses the roles of civilian officers and employees of the Department of Defense to carry firearms or other appropriate weapons while assigned investigative duties or such other duties as the Secretary of Defense may prescribe. The revisions to this rule will be reported in future status updates as part of DoD's retrospective plan under Executive Order 13563 completed in August 2011.
