DoD is proposing to amend the Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement to implement recommendations of representatives from Defense Finance Accounting Services, the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense Comptroller, and DoD Chief Financial Officer, the military services, and Defense Procurement and Acquisition Policy, which concluded that the appropriate accounting treatment for payments can be derived from the type of item acquired and the type of payment.  The rule proposes instructions for payment offices to allocate payments to the correct accounting classifications when making payments on contracts with multiple accounting classifications.  The rule also proposes instructions for contractors when submitting progress payment requests for contracts that identify multiple production lots.
