DoD is issuing a final rule to amend the Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement to implement recommendations of representatives from the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense Comptroller, the DoD Chief Financial Officer, and the Defense Finance and Accounting Services; the military services; and Defense Pricing and Contracting. They concluded that the appropriate accounting treatment for payments can be derived from the type of item acquired and the type of payment. The rule also provides instructions for payment offices to allocate payments to the correct accounting classifications when making payments on contracts with multiple accounting classifications.  The rule also includes instructions for contractors when submitting progress payment requests for contracts that identify multiple production lots.
