This final rule will remove DoD’s regulation concerning paternity claims and adoption proceedings involving members and former members of the Armed Forces. The DoD policy that corresponds with this rule was rescinded on 19 December 2011. DoD empowers commanders to handle family and dependent care in accordance with local laws governing paternity and child support, and service standards for dependents.
