On January 28, 2025, President Trump issued Executive Order (EO) 14187, ‘‘Protecting Children From Chemical and Surgical Mutilation’,’ which directs the Secretary of HHS to take all appropriate actions consistent with applicable law to end the chemical and surgical mutilation of children. Section 5(a) of this EO states that the Secretary of HHS shall, consistent with applicable law, take all appropriate actions to end the chemical and surgical mutilation of children, including regulatory and sub-regulatory actions for specific programs, including Medicaid. CMS will prohibit sex-rejecting procedures in Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program in alignment with key evidence on this topic.
