This final rule would modify Head Start performance standards to implement provisions in the Improving Head Start for School Readiness Act of 2007. Head Start performance standards would be revised to take into account increased knowledge in the early childhood field since the standards were last updated more than 15 years ago. Changes would strengthen requirements on curriculum and assessment, supervision, health and safety, and governance. The final rule would also streamline existing regulations to eliminate unnecessary or duplicative requirements.
