<RULE_TITLE>Endangered and Threatened Wildlife and Plants; Listing Determination for Dunes Sagebrush Lizard</RULE_TITLE>
<![CDATA[We are listing the Dunes sagebrush lizard (Sceloporus arenicolus) as endangered throughout its range in eastern New Mexico and western Texas, because of, among other factors, the current and future threat of oil and gas development and the removal of the lizard’s shinnery oak habitat for cropland and rangeland across the species’ range. Currently a candidate for listing under the Endangered Species Act (under the old common name “sand dunes lizard” but same scientific name), the species occupies a very limited range in the two States. Note: the species’ common name has recently changed, from Sand dunes lizard to Dunes sagebrush lizard, because the common name “sand dunes lizard” was already in use by another species.]]>
