We will make a listing determination for massasauga rattlesnake pursuant to the Endangered Species Act. The massasauga rattlesnake is native to Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Iowa, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New York. We are required to designate critical habitat, to the maximum extent prudent and determinable, concurrent with a listing determination for the species. However, we have determined that designating critical habitat for the eastern massasauga rattlesnake is not prudent, due to an increased risk of collection and persecution.
