We will amend the current species-level listing of the humpback whale (Megaptera novaeangliae) by listing four distinct population segments (DPSs) of the humpback whale as endangered species and one DPS as threatened. Nine DPSs are no longer threatened or endangered and will be removed from the list. This rule is based on previously published listing determinations by the National Marine Fisheries Service.
