In 2012, we proposed to add the hyacinth macaw to the List of Endangered and Threatened Wildlife as an endangered species. In 2016, based on new information, we revised that proposed rule to list the hyacinth macaw as a threatened species with a rule under section 4(d) of the Endangered Species Act. If finalized as proposed in 2016, the import and export of hyacinth macaws that meet certain criteria and interstate commerce would be allowed without a permit under the ESA.
