<RULE_TITLE>Endangered and Threatened Wildlife and Plants; Removal of 21 Extinct Species From the Lists of Endangered and Threatened Wildlife and Plants</RULE_TITLE>

FWS will make a final determination on our proposal to remove the following species from the Lists of Endangered and Threatened Wildlife and Plants due to extinction: MAMMAL: Little Mariana fruit bat (Pteropus tokudae); BIRDS: Bachman’s warbler (Vermivora bachmanii), bridled white-eye (Zosterops conspicillatus conspicillatus), Kakawahie (or Molokai creeper) (Paroreomyza flammea), Kauai akialoa (Akialoa stejnegeri), Kauai nukupuu (Hemignathus hanapepe), Kauai oo (Moho braccatus), Maui akepa (Loxops ochraceus), Maui nukupuu (Hemignathus affinis), Poouli (Melamprosops phaeosoma), and large Kauai thrush (kama) (Myadestes myadestinus); FISH: San Marcos gambusia (Gambusia georgei) and Scioto madtom (Noturus trautmani); and CLAMS: flat pigtoe (Pleurobema marshalli), green blossom (pearlymussel) (Epioblasma torulosa gubernaculum), southern acornshell (Epioblasma othcaloogensis), stirrupshell (Quadrula stapes), tubercled blossom (pearlymussel) (Epioblasma torulosa torulosa), turgid blossom (pearlymussel) (Epioblasma turgidula), upland combshell (Epioblasma metastriata), and yellow blossom (pearlymussel) (Epioblasma florentina florentina). These species no longer require the protection of the Endangered Species Act because they have gone extinct. The species addressed in this rule have not been observed for several decades, and adequate survey efforts have been conducted that support the Service’s recommendations. Additionally, the species included in the rule have 5-year reviews that recommend delisting due to extinction or that repeatedly discuss the species is likely extinct. FWS will make separate final determinations on our proposal to remove the ivory-billed woodpecker (Campephilus principalis) and Phyllostegia glabra var. lanaiensis (no common name) from the Lists of Endangered and Threatened Wildlife and Plants, respectively.
