The Office of Justice Programs intends to revise its procedures for implementing the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) set out in 28 CFR part 61, appendix D, to reflect the current structure and activities carried by the Office of Justice Programs and its component offices. The existing regulations are outdated, do not include all of the OJP program offices, and are not comprehensive enough to cover all OJP activities and grant programs. Conversely, in other ways, the existing regulations are over-inclusive, and require expense and effort to carry out environmental reviews for projects unlikely to have any significant impact on the environment.  The timeframe for action may be affected by inter- and intra-Departmental reviews, and is subject to adjustment.
