<p>The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 (the Affordable Care Act) amended title I of ERISA, by adding a new section 715 which encompasses various health reform provisions of the Public Health Service (PHS) Act.&nbsp;&nbsp; Section 2715 of the PHS Act directs the Departments of Labor, Treasury, and Health and Human Services to develop standards for use by a group health plan and a health insurance issuer offering group or individual health insurance coverage in compiling and providing a summary of benefits and coverage (SBC) that accurately describes the benefits and coverage under the applicable plan or coverage.&nbsp; PHS Act section 2715 also calls for the development of standards for the definitions of terms used in health insurance coverage.&nbsp;</p>
