The Coast Guard proposes to codify the marine foam fire-extinguishing systems type-approval procedure and criteria in the Code of Federal Regulations.  These new regulations would consolidate existing guidance on procedure and criteria.  They would also align Coast Guard enforcement with industry standards and address technological advancements. This codification would promote maritime safety and stewardship by making the foam systems type-approval procedure more transparent and the criteria more accessible.  This deregulatory action would also reduce compliance burdens, leading to a more efficient process and cost savings for foam system manufacturers and Coast Guard approved laboratories.
