This deregulatory action would propose to enable TSA to accept derived digital identification. This includes forms of digital identification that are issued by a private entity but derived from identification issued by a U.S. government agency or State. This rulemaking proposes to establish issuance requirements and processes, based on industry best practices and technical standards, that private issuers of derived digital identification must follow to obtain TSA acceptance. This deregulatory action would enable the traveling public to use their derived digital identification at TSA checkpoints, enabling more efficient processing with enhanced security, reliability and privacy-enhancing identity verification transactions.
