1840-AD32 201804 Unified Agenda of Federal Regulatory and Deregulatory Actions 1840 Office of Postsecondary Education OPE 1800 Department of Education ED Teacher Quality Enhancement (TQE) Grants Program

The Office of Postsecondary Education administered TQE grants prior to 2009. The grants awarded in OPE consisted of three discretionary grant programs: State, Partnership and Recruitment Grants. Funds were awarded to institutions of higher education, State educational agencies, or local educational agencies. These institutions in turn awarded scholarships to students who promised to teach in a high-need school district. The Department will rescind the regulations concerning the Teacher Quality Enhancement Grants Program. We will take this action because this program is no longer authorized by the Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended.
