GAANN provides grants that support programs of postbaccalaureate study leading to graduate degrees, including a master’s or doctoral degree, in areas of national need. Through a notice inviting applications, the Secretary designates areas of national need after consultation with appropriate Federal and nonprofit agencies and organizations.

The Department will amend the regulations concerning the GAANN Program to align with changes made to the Higher Education Act of 1965 by the Higher Education Opportunity Act of 2008 (Pub. L. 110315) and to revise other sections to be more consistent with the program’s legal parameters.
