The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is initiating an effort to consider amending its energy conservation standards for battery chargers. DOE is obligated to review its energy conservation standards once every six years under 42 U.S.C. 6295(m) and to determine whether to amend its standards, or whether its existing standards do not need to be amended. To this end, DOE must determine whether national standards more stringent than those currently in place would result in a significant amount of energy savings and whether such amended national standards would be technologically feasible and economically justified.
