The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) proposes to amend the test procedures for plumbing products: showerheads and faucets. Currently, 10 CFR 430 incorporates by reference the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Standard A112.18.1-2012 test procedure, "Plumbing Fixture Fittings." The 2012 version of the ASME standard was re-affirmed in 2017, and then updated in 2018 to ASME A112.18.1-2018, "Plumbing Supply Fixtures," which is the current version of the industry standard. The Energy Policy and Conservation Act (EPCA), as amended, requires DOE to amend 10 CFR 430 to conform to the revised ASME Standard A112.18.1 if the test procedure requirements of that standard are amended, or at least once every 7 years.
