This rulemaking would revise the existing effluent limitations guidelines for centralized waste treatment facilities (40 CFR Part 437) to expand opportunities for treatment and discharge of wastewater from oil and gas extraction facilities (called produced water). The current rule contains definitions that may limit discharge of produced water.
