<![CDATA[EPA, under an Environmental Defense Fund settlement agreement, will amend, if necessary, the regulations for hazardous waste management under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) to reduce hazards to human health and the environment from inorganic chemical industry wastes. The wastes to be studied include: sodium dichromate production wastes, wastes from the dry process for manufacturing phosphoric acid, phosphorus trichloride production wastes, phosphorus pentasulfide production wastes, wastes from the production of sodium phosphate from wet process phosphoric acid, sodium chlorate production wastes, antimony oxide production wastes, cadmium pigments production wastes, barium carbonate production wastes, potassium dichromate production wastes, phenyl mercuric acetate production wastes, boric acid production wastes, inorganic hydrogen cyanide production wastes, and titanium dioxide production wastes (except for chloride process waste solids). This study is proposed under the authority of sections 3001(e)(2) of RCRA which directs EPA to make a hazardous waste listing determination for inorganic chemical wastes. After an extensive study of the waste streams of the above chemical industry processes, including characterization of the wastes generated and a risk assessment evaluating plausible mismanagement scenarios, EPA will propose which of the above wastes, if any, should be listed as a hazardous waste under 40 CFR part 261.]]>
