As part of ongoing implementation of the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) program, the Agency reviews new fuel pathways to evaluate their lifecycle greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and determine their eligibility for the RFS program. In 2012, EPA issued a notice of data availability seeking public comment on the Agency’s analysis of the lifecycle GHG emissions associated with biofuels produced from palm oil. The Agency intends to complete the evaluation of the palm oil fuel pathways under the RFS program through a supplemental action.
