This rulemaking would amend the labeling requirement for periodic visual inspection of compressed natural gas (CNG) fuel containers specified in Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 304, Compressed natural gas fuel container integrity, in response to petitions for rulemaking from the American Trucking Association and Natural Gas Vehicle America. This rulemaking, with no reduction in safety, would alleviate the cost burden associated with what the petitioners believe to be an excessive number of visual inspections per year for high mileage vehicles.
