The Violence Against Women Act Reauthorization Act of 2022 (VAWA 2022) reauthorized the Violence Against Women Act, as amended (VAWA). VAWA 2022 requires each appropriate agency, including HUD, to conduct notice-and-comment rulemaking for certain provisions. HUD will conduct rulemaking to give full force and effect to certain provisions of the law's new protections for survivors. VAWA 2022 in part requires that HUD issue regulations to establish standards of compliance review for covered housing programs. HUD will also conduct rulemaking to, among other things, update definitions, address the prohibition against retaliation and the right to report crime and emergencies from one’s home, and establish VAWA-specific enforcement regulations.  HUD will also consider other revisions to update its VAWA regulations and ensure full compliance with Congress’ amendments and revisions to the Act.
