<p>This advanced notice of proposed rulemaking seeks comment on possible future rulemaking to implement HUD&rsquo;s authority under section 244 of the National Housing Act (12 U.S.C. 1715z-9). Section 244 authorizes the Secretary of HUD to insure a mortgage pursuant to a co-insurance contract providing that the mortgagee&nbsp;will assume a percentage of any loss on the insured&nbsp;mortgage in direct proportion to the amount of the co-insurance. HUD&rsquo;s previous regulations implementing this authority were removed in 1994. HUD is considering issuing new regulations to implement section 244 and seeks comment on the feasibility and possible substance of such potential future rulemaking.</p>
