<RULE_TITLE>Update to the Manufactured Housing Construction and Safety Standards Regulations (FR-6233) </RULE_TITLE>
        <ABSTRACT>

This proposed rule would amend the Federal Manufactured Home Construction and Safety Standards by adopting certain recommendations made to HUD by the Manufactured Housing Consensus Committee (MHCC). The National Manufactured Housing Construction and Safety Standards Act of 1974 (the Act) requires HUD to publish all proposed revised construction and safety standards submitted by the MHCC. This rule is based on the fourth and fifth sets of MHCC proposals that further revise the Construction and Safety Standards. HUD has reviewed those proposals and has made editorial revisions. HUD believes this rule represents revisions that HUD and the MHCC have agreed upon. Consistent with the recommendations from the MHCC, as amended by HUD, this rule proposes to revise definitions for clarification purposes and to accommodate multi-dwelling units, update and add standards incorporated by reference, and make amendments specifically addressing multi-unit dwellings, the data plate requirement, and to include an updated statement on the Wind Zone Map. This rule specifically proposes to amend terminology used for planning considerations, amend fire safety, body and frame, and plumbing requirements, and update standards for testing, thermal protection, heating, cooling and fuel burning systems. The rule also updates and adds standards that are incorporated by reference. The rule also revises installation requirements for fire sprinkler systems and water supplies.
