This final rule strengthens the section 184 Indian Housing Loan Guarantee Program by updating the regulations to codify current practices, address tribal comments received during tribal consultation, clarify the loan guarantee process, and update the program consistent with current industry standards. As the section 184 program grows to assist more eligible borrowers, it faces increased risk. These changes ensure program sustainability, decrease risk to the federal government, and provide clarity for new and existing lenders who participate in the program.
