On May 1, 2008, the Commission issued for public comment a Concept Release on the Appropriate Regulatory Treatment of Event Contracts, which included a request for comment on twenty-four specific questions regarding financial agreements offered by markets commonly referred to as event, prediction, or information markets. The Concept Release was published in the Federal Register on May 7, 2008 (73 FR 25669), and the original comment period closed on July 7, 2008. The Commission is considering reopening the comment period for the Concept Release for 120 days.
