This RIN is related to the previously published RIN 3041-AD35. On March 23, 2016, staff delivered a briefing package for Commission consideration that included a draft final rule to amend 16 CFR part 1211, to reflect changes Underwriters Laboratory (UL) has made to its standard UL 325, upon which the Commission standard was based. On December 20, 2016, UL notified the Commission that UL had revised the sixth edition of UL 325. On January 11, 2017, staff submitted a briefing package to the Commission recommending that the Commission allow UL’s revisions to be included in the Commission’s garage door operator standard. On January 18, 2017, the Commission voted to approve staff’s recommendation. On June 16, 2017, UL notified the Commission that UL had made additional revisions to UL 325, resulting in UL publishing the seventh edition. On July 5, 2017, staff submitted a briefing package to the Commission recommending that the Commission allow UL’s revisions to be included in the Commission’s garage door operator standard. On July 11, 2017, the Commission voted to approve the staff’s recommendation. Staff is preparing a final rule to amend 16 CFR part 1211 to reflect these changes.
