Proposing to amend our regulations to specifically address digitized records. Previously, agencies were allowed to notify NARA when applying disposition authorities for digital versions of permanent hard copy records. However, we are now removing the notification requirement and instead requiring agencies to follow the rescheduling process, if necessary. To align with OMB/NARA Directives, we will specifically mandate the transfer of digital versions of records. As a result, we are establishing new criteria for scheduling and transferring permanent digitized records. The old regulation, 1225.24, is being replaced by 1225.22(b), which will assist agencies in determining whether records need to be rescheduled before their transfer to NARA.
