DoD, GSA, and NASA are proposing to amend the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) to require the use of Department of Defense (DoD) Wide Area Workflow (WAWF) for the electronic submission of the DD Form 254, Contract Security Classification Specification. This form is used to convey security requirements regarding classified information to contractors and subcontractors and must be submitted to the Defense Security Services (DSS) when contractors or subcontractors require access to classified information under contracts awarded by agencies covered by the National Industrial Security Program (NISP). By changing the submittal process of the form from a manual process to an automated one, the government will reduce the cost of maintaining the forms, while also providing a centralized repository for classified contract security requirements and supporting data.
