Title: ●Regulatory Amendment To Adjust Management Measures Under the Fishery Management Plan for Reef Fish Species of the Gulf of Mexico (FMP) for the 1998 Fishing Season
Abstract: This action would amend the regulations implementing the FMP to establish management measures for the 1998 fishing season, in accordance with the FMP's framework procedure for setting annual total allowable catch (TAC) limits and associated measures for all managed species. Adjusted measures may include revised: TAC limits, commercial and recreational fishery quotas, size limits for harvested fish, closed fishing seasons or areas, and rebuilding schedules for overfished species (e.g., red snapper). The FMP regulates commercial and recreational fishing in the exclusive economic zone of the Gulf of Mexico and was developed by the Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council (Council) and approved/implemented by the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS). Annual management changes are proposed by the Council; NMFS publishes a proposed rule to obtain public comment on these proposals for consideration in approving/disapproving them. Approved measures are implemented by final rule.
