Title: Extension of Implementation Date of the Year 4 Default Management Measures for Small-Mesh Multispecies (Whiting, Red Hake and Offshore Hake)
Abstract: This action proposes to extend the implementation date of the year-four default management measures for small-mesh multispecies (whiting, red hake and offshore hake) for one year to May 1, 2003. Under the year-four default measures, which are currently scheduled to become effective on May 1, 2002, vessels would be prohibited from fishing for whiting with mesh less than 3 inches (square or diamond) in almost all New England and Mid-Atlantic fisheries, and a 10,000 lb possession limit would automatically be implemented for whiting and offshore hake, combined.
