DOL/MSHA RIN: 1219-AB46 Publication ID: Spring 2006
Title: ●Emergency Mine Evacuation
Abstract: The Mine Safety and Health Administration has issued an emergency temporary standard under section 101(b) of the Federal Mine Safety and Health Act of 1977 in response to the grave danger which miners are exposed to during underground coal mine accidents and subsequent evacuations. The recent January 2006 mine accidents and fatalities demonstrate the need for MSHA to take additional action that will improve mine operatorsÂ’ ability to respond to mine emergencies. This emergency temporary standard includes requirements for immediate accident notification; self-contained self-rescuer storage, training, and use; and the installation, use and maintenance of lifelines in underground mine escapeways.
