Title: Fish and Seafood Promotion Act Provisions; Seafood Marketing Councils
Abstract: In 1989, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) issued a final rule implementing the Fish and Seafood Promotion Act of 1986 (Act), as it pertains to seafood marketing councils for one or more species of fish or fish products. The rule was stricken from the Code of Federal Regulations as part of a Presidential regulatory reform effort along with a large number of other rules and regulations unused or little used. In light of evidence that seafood marketing councils may be a valuable tool in the near future, NOAA now plans to reissue this rule which governs the establishment and operations of such councils. This rule is intended to implement the Act.
